Should I Take it as a Refusal!

Once a low cast wanted to give education to his son.So he sent him to a city and he became an officer.When he came back to his village .Everyone was happy and he was asked to select a girl for marriage.He told his elders that he wanted to marry the daughter of village chief.All were taken aback.But he insisted and told them that the times had changed.Now people believe in equality .Nobody is judged by his race ,cast,colour or wealth.Character ,education and politeness are more important than these things,he told them.So the poor old man believing in what his son had told all of them, put on new clothes and went to the village chief .The host was surprised and asked what had brought him there.The low cast told chief that he wanted to talk to him in private.He was amazed.He told him to say whatever he had to say in front of every body.The poor man was helpless and told in front of everyone present there that he was there to ask for the hand of the daughter of the village chief.At this the chief was infuriated and he ordered his men to beat the hell out of him .Then they released dogs on him.After he had been beaten badly,was wounded,his clothes torn,the chief stopped his men and told him to leave.When he was leaving ,he looked at the chief cleaned his clothes and said :"Should I take it as refusal?"
