The Fidayeen were founded by Hasan bin Sabah to kill rivals by utilising narcotics. He offered his followers a paradise where they could relax with lovely damsels while high on hashish. They were prepared to die at their leader's command because they were certain that paradise was on the horizon. The organisation persisted in its terror for many years. Even Salahuddin Ayubi was forced to use personal defence against them. Their tale was told by Marco Polo. Omar Khayam, a friend of Hasan, composed lyrics about enduring love while Hasan spread enmity and abused paradise.
