Santiago's perseverance shows itself when he goes out to sea every day trying to catch fish even though he hasn't caught one in eighty-four days!

Santiago's perseverance is a major theme in Ernest Hemingway's novella "The Old Man and the Sea." Santiago is an experienced fisherman who has not been able to catch a fish in 84 days. Despite this streak of bad luck, he continues to go out to sea every day, determined to catch a fish. His determination and resilience in the face of adversity is a clear example of perseverance. Even though he is aware that this is going to be a difficult task, and possibly an impossible one, his love for the sea, his passion for fishing and his respect to tradition, makes him to continue going out to sea and trying to catch fish. He doesn't lose his hope and his confidence and even when he is faced with the prospect of starvation and defeat, he continues to believe that he will catch a fish. This is the perseverance and determination which made him to finally catch the biggest fish of his life after 84 days.
