Political activists from the Hazara Movement demand the creation of more provinces in Pakistan.

Particularly in light of the impending general elections, Pakistan has been the target of requests for the establishment of new provinces. One such proposal came from Baba Haider Zaman, the leader of the Tehrik Suba Hazara Party (TSHP), who called for the division of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa into four provinces along administrative lines and the creation of a province specifically for Hazara residents. These demands had been made on the eve of the eighth anniversary of Youm-e-Shuhada, the day when police opened fire on a rally in support of the Hazara province, killing seven pro-Hazara province activists and injuring 104 others.

Zaman's appeal to Hazara inhabitants to abstain from voting for political parties that opposed the establishment of the Hazara province reflected the anger of those who believed that their fundamental rights had been violated. As an alternative to holding elections on a single day, he had suggested that the electoral process be modeled after that used in Europe, where voting takes place over the course of a month. He argued that doing this will prevent wealthy individuals from controlling campaigns, which breeds corruption, and ensure that all registered political parties have an equal opportunity to run for office. General (retired) Pervez Musharraf, a former president, had backed the call for new provinces and argued that doing so would help the nation combat the corruption of its leaders.

Many people who contend that expanding the number of provinces will decentralize authority and improve citizen-government have repeated this sentiment. A separate province called "Qabailistan" should be created for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), according to former federal minister Hameedullah Jan Afridi.

Despite the growing calls for new provinces, it's crucial to recall the sacrifices made by the political activists of the Hazara movement who gave their lives for their cause. It's important to remember their fight for a Hazara province and to honor the sacrifices they made. It's crucial to avoid using violence or bloodshed and instead pursue peaceful, democratic solutions to the calls for additional provinces.

Political parties must address the grievances of those who believe their basic rights have been violated as Pakistan gears up for the next general elections. The establishment of additional provinces could be a way to address some of these issues, but it must be done in a way that is open, equal, and fair to everyone. The sacrifices made by political activists who have stood up for their beliefs must also be honored, and we must make sure that their fight was not in vain.

Postscript:

The long overdue demand for the establishment of a separate province for Pakistan's Saraiki-speaking citizens merits careful attention. The federal government has overlooked the cultural and economic demands of the Saraiki people for far too long. The establishment of a Saraiki province would give the area a platform to address its urgent problems, including poverty, unemployment, and a lack of infrastructure. Additionally, it would help promote and maintain the area's unique history, culture, and language for upcoming generations. As a result of their great contributions to Pakistan, the Saraiki people deserve their own province so they can choose their own course for wealth and advancement.
