CSS Interview: Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP)
The Subcontinent was under British rule for 90 years (1858–1947), and the British government established a civil service modeled after the civil service in the United Kingdom. The Indian Civil Service (formerly known as the Imperial Civil Service) was given administrative control of the subcontinent in 1858 to carry out Imperial Rule objectives and serve the common people. Locals were once barred from competing for officer-level positions; however, they were eventually allowed to qualify for the Civil Service Exam.
Pakistan was founded on August 14, 1947, and its civil service was established by available officers who chose Pakistan, resulting in the foundation of the Civil Service of Pakistan (CSP). It was re-framed and re-established in 1971 under “Chapter I: Part-XII, Article 240” of the Pakistan Constitution, giving it foundation and constitutional legitimacy.
