Research Opportunity at the University of Cambridge: Psychiatry / Psychology of Religion

The University of Cambridge is currently recruiting for a Research Associate (Fixed-Term, 21 months) in Psychiatry or Psychology of Religion as part of a UKRI-funded interdisciplinary project titled:

“Exploring the Grey Zone: A Biopsychosocial Approach to Religious Delusions and Conspiracy Beliefs.”

This position sits at the intersection of psychiatry, psychology, and the anthropology of religion, focusing on some of the most complex questions in contemporary mental health research, how meaning, belief, and pathology overlap in lived human experience.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team led by Professor Joseph Webster and contribute to three key areas:

  • Organizing an interdisciplinary workshop on Meaningfulness, Usefulness, and Pathology
  • Qualitative analysis of autobiographical narratives written by individuals experiencing delusional or conspiracist ideation
  • Coding and analysis of interview transcripts from research participants

Applicants are expected to hold a PhD in Psychiatry, Neuroscience, or Psychology, with a strong research background in psychosis, delusional ideation, or conspiracist thinking.

This is a highly specialized role for researchers interested in the cognitive, psychological, and cultural dimensions of belief formation.

Deadline: 15 June 2026
