THESIS STATEMENT::
What does a good thesis statement look like?
There is one big tip on writing a good essay almost every article on the web gives you. It’s to come up with a clear and specific thesis statement.
But how one does it? You need to understand what is the main idea of your ESSAY/PAPER and how to communicate it in a comprehensive and concise way. Here are some of the thesis statement examples to help you make this task less problematic.
Thesis statement formula
As you can see, there is no universal thesis statement formula as every type of a writing assignment requires a different approach. In some cases, you will have to include counterarguments, and in others presenting solely your point of view will suffice. Here are a couple of examples:
While there is a common belief that ……., a closer examination proves that …….
Despite the ……., the recent facts show that ……
The reason for is …… and as a result …….
EXAMPLES::
Endorsement of child labor by international companies should not be supported.
Consumers should not buy items from the countries that endorse child labor because this kind of financial approval encourages big corporations to increase the production, the exhaustion of a child’s body can lead to severe health problems, and the hard work deprives children of their childhood.
Space missions should not be a priority.
We spend billions of dollars on developing the strategies of Mars colonization while there are millions of people suffering from famine here, on our planet. It would be more beneficial to spend more on saving people in Africa from starvation and water shortages than sending someone to a distant planet.
Video games advocating violence should be banned.
Video games featuring violent episodes should be banned as they lead to violence at schools, damage the mentality of minds, and create the perverted image of reality.
Studying abroad.
Although the idea of studying abroad might sound costly, the experience one will get from the interaction with another culture and different approach to teaching is worth it.
Women choosing not to have children.
There is nothing scandalous about a woman who chooses not to have children and our society has to understand that. It is her time and body that are at stake but not someone’s beliefs.
National identity.
We will see more and more regions demanding independence in the upcoming years because the question of national identity has become extremely the top of the agenda in Europe.
Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin.
The similarities between the two dictators are striking and they need a thorough investigation to understand the specific reasons for their horrid behavior.
Darwin and Lamarck
Although Darwin and Lamarck had similar views on the idea of species evolving over time, they had reached to different results in terms of the acquired traits inheritability.
eBooks and paper books
While both eBooks and paper books have the same goal, the experience they bring to a reader is different and leads to several major distinctions between the two.
Google and Facebook
Although Google and Facebook are designed for different purposes, they have multiple similarities of influencing people’s perceptions.
Space missions should not be a priority.
We spend billions of dollars on developing the strategies of Mars colonization while there are millions of people suffering from famine here, on our planet. It would be more beneficial to spend more on saving people in Africa from starvation and water shortages than sending someone to a distant planet.
The line between exaggeration and lies in advertising.
There are not enough regulatory norms to make the modern advertisement less deceiving. The line between exaggeration and lies is not clear and the products advertised turn often don’t meet the customers’ expectations. If we introduce more rigid rules to advertising, there will be less disappointed customers.

CSS ESSAY PART-4
Introduction=ESSAY IN MINIATURE
IN A SINGLE PARAGRAPH
INTRODUCTION MUST ANSWER 3 QUESTIONS/3 Ws:
1.What is the topic?
2.What is the essay writer's take on it? &
3.What is coming ahead?
Length::150 words an executive summary of the essay
or 1-2 pages
Point to remember:;Introduction and conclusion OUGHT TO BE shorter THAN BODY PARAGRAPHS
There are many methods of making introductions.
1 Direct Style
2. Indirect Style
Direct Style
You will open up with the topic lines or start it directly and then expand it a bit. It should be like Start to End. It is like starting directly from the topic and diverging it.
Indirect Style
Here you can make start from any relevant argument and then connect the things to your essay topic. It is just like End to Start. It is like Converging towards the topic.
You can start with a very little brief history 2-3 lines, a quotation, a question, case study, or from the key word of the essay topic and then ending the introductory paragraph on the essay topic.
For example an indirect introduction of the essay
" Brains, like hearts go where they are appreciated"
Brain and heart are two major and vital body organs. Brain can be considered to be the chief executive of the body whereas heart; although it pumps blood to all the body, is thought to be the generator of emotions and desires. They are often thought to be working in opposition to each other but this perception is not supported generally. Rather, there is a unique combination between the two which regulates the bodily functions and the behavior. Both organs are responsible for developing perception about everything in life. If it is accepted that heart works in opposition to brain, then a person should jump from an aeroplane on the sight of a beautiful waterfall or any place of his choice. But it never happens because of the threat involved. So the brain and heart work coherently and only those actions are carried out which have appreciation. Appreciation can be in any form and its meanings vary from person to person. Appreciation determines the pathway followed by us. Men of brain and scholars migrate to more developed countries in pursuit of appreciation in the form of sky-scrapping salaries. Great military geniuses of history were found to carry their military expeditions for land, wealth and authority. Brain gives a key importance to appreciation in the interpersonal relations as well. Despite strong desires to advance to a very beautiful, charming and graceful person, appreciation by that person on this advancement will be given due consideration. Thus appreciation attracts the brain and brains, like hearts go where they are appreciated.
In the above introduction, indirect style has been adopted which opens with the key words of the topic Brain and Heart and from their physiologic importance, a chain of arguments connect the three words Brain, Heart and Appreciation and in the end the introduction ends by confirming the topic of the essay.

CSS ESSAY PART 5
The paragraph
The second thing, in order to maintain and make obvious a clear structure, is to be aware of the nature of the paragraph as the basic structuring unit in the essay. Basically, every paragraph should represent and flesh out a heading or sub-heading in the outline. The paragraph is the building block of the essay. Therefore:
It should be at least a third to half a page in length, but not too long or the reader will get lost. No one-sentence paragraphs! They give the impression that you read the Sun a lot. It's not good to give that impression.

It should have what's known as a topic sentence, near the beginning, that announces the theme of the paragraph. The paragraph should not deviate from this theme or introduce any new themes.
The first sentence should somehow be linked to, or contrast with, the last sentence of the previous paragraph.
The first paragraph should announce clearly the theme of the essay. I prefer first paragraphs that quite baldly say "I am going to do this and that in this essay". (Some markers don't, however). In the first paragraph also you should define your version of the title and make it clear. If the marker knows from the beginning what you are going to do, s/he can bear it in mind and be aware that you are sticking to the point and developing it, because s/he will know what the point is.
The last paragraph is not so important. You can proudly announce that you have fulfilled the aims of the first paragraph, if you like, or you can just end: it's up to you.
But the main thing is to make each paragraph a solid unit that develops a clearly announced sub-theme of the essay. This way the indented outline that's behind it will be obvious (not too obvious: don't write subheadings before every paragraph) and the marker will not have that terrible lost feeling that immediately precedes giving the essay a low mark in disgust.

CSS ESSAY PART-6
Conclusion is not Suggestion. Always remember it.
In conclusion, no new argument should be added. You will just sum up the arguments and justification to support your stance in the conclusion and here your justifications should resonate the essay topic and should re-confirm it. This is must part of essay. You can give your own perception as well. But never add something new in the conclusion. Conclusion never means suggestions. Here you just re-confirm your essay topic or the stance you have maintained in the essay. Here you will support all your essay. This is a backdoor of the essay from where you exit.

Its length should be ideally less than introductory para more ideally one half of your introduction in length. It should be concise and to the point.
In conclusion, you show the examiner that you are confident on yourself and you re-confirm yourself.
Before starting your conclusion, do write the words, "in the end", "to conclude" etc etc.
Also it is inappropriate to start your conclusion suddenly. It should be smooth in the essay. It should not look like in essay that you were arguing and justifying and abruptly you realized that oh my God......! only five minutes are left. And you stop your arguments and right after that para you straight away write "To conclude"...........just like a car was moving at the speed of 40Km/hour and suddenly it stopped and took a 180 degree U-Turn.
You will bring the reader of the essay slowly towards the end of the essay. Your outline should be such that your last 2 or at least one heading is like a closure of the essay. It would help you keeping to the track. You will systematically move to the conclusion yourself. The reader will assess himself that its now heading towards the closure.
Transition from Essay Body to Conclusion should be smooth, coherent, in order and must come as a gradual step in essay. It should feel like gradually going the stairs instead of a jump from the top of the roof. It should look like a part of the essay and a part of gradual descending towards the conclusion. It should not be like a misfit brick in the wall.

CSS ESSAY PART-7

Styling references
This list should be set out in a particular and consistent way. The way I use is like this:
Horace Hart, Hart's Rules for Compositors and Readers at the University Press, Oxford , (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1983) Main Library General Reference 1 Z 253

A.S. Maney and R.L. Smallwood, MHRA Style Book, Notes for Authors, Editors and Writers of Dissertations , (London: Modern Humanities Research Association, 1981) Main Library General Reference 1 Z 253 Main Library Lang. & Lit. Ref. 1 Z 253
MLA Handbook for writers of research papers, theses, and dissertations , (New York: MLA, 1977) Gen. Ref. Z 253
and, appropriately enough, these are the books that tell you how to do it properly. There are various ways of styling (as printers call it) references (ie book and article titles) and it doesn't matter which you adopt, but you should learn one and adopt it. Hart's Rules is a beautiful little book, the printer's bible and ultimate authority, and it's very nice to own a copy; the MLA Handbook is more use for students (it has a chapter on how to do indented outlines, for instance--see section 8 for more on this.) I have both, right by my desk, all the time. These books will tell you how to style your references and how also to lay out quotations in an essay, how to refer to a book or an article in the body of an essay, how to punctuate, and so on. I very rarely look at mine now: I more or less know what they say. So should you: it's the essence of professionalism in writing.

CSS ESSAY PART-8

Quotations
Firstly, quote sufficiently but not too copiously. Not more than a third of any page at the very outside, and usually just a few lines at a time. It's your thought, not the quotation, that is the point. On the other hand, never forget that your ideas should be tied firmly into the text, and that you should demonstrate this by quotation.

CSS ESSAY PART-9

Register
This is what linguists call a style appropriate to the occasion. Be aware: a certain scholarly gravity is called for. Not too heavy so that it's uninteresting. But avoid colloquial abbreviations: should not, not shouldn't. Jokes are hazardous: if they don't [do not follow my practice as regards don't] work, they can cost you a lot. Avoid them, on the whole: or at least don't be jokey. Don't for goodness sake imitate the way I'm writing here, either the rather flippant colloquial style or the somewhat overbearing tone, or the numbered subheadings. This is an essay on how to write a literary essay, not a literary essay.

CSS ESSAY PART-10
Spelling and punctuation
There is a simple but unpleasant rule about this.
(v) If you produce work that is mis-spelt and/or badly punctuated and/or ungrammatical, however good the ideas are, people will tend to think that you are stupid.

They will be wrong; it will just mean that you can't spell, or can't punctuate, or don't know some of the grammar rules. Nonetheless, that's what they will think. Since it will almost always be in your best interests to show that you are intelligent, rather than stupid, if you have a problem in any of these areas you should do something about it. If you have a word processor, get a spelling checker. Persuade someone you know who can spell, punctuate, etc. to read over your work first and check it: learn the sort of mistakes you make, and don't make them again.
There are very good suggestions on how to manage punctuation in the Oxford Guide to Writing. If you have a problem with punctuation, I strongly suggest you get hold of this book.
Another much cheaper and also excellent book is Plain English, by Diané Collinson et al. (book details and current price) (Library reference).
