In the Nevada desert, there lies a highly secure US Air Force station known as Area 51. It is well-known for its links to conspiracies and purported government concealments of extraterrestrial technology and life. The facility's existence has been confirmed by the US government, but its use and operations are still under wraps. Due to accounts of UFO encounters in the neighbourhood, Area 51 became well-known in the 1980s. In 2013, released CIA records revealed that the location had been used for Cold War high-altitude surveillance aircraft testing.
According to a book by journalist Annie Jacobsen published in 2011 titled "Area 51: An Uncensored History of America's Top Secret Military Facility," the facility was used to test new weaponry and aircraft. The U.S. government insists that Area 51 is just a testing and training ground for aircraft and weapon systems despite the controversy and secrecy surrounding the facility.
