Gross National Happiness (GNH)

Gross National Happiness (GNH), which puts citizens' wellbeing and happiness ahead of economic measures like GDP, was popularised in Bhutan, a country close to Nepal. Bhutan has since used a variety of metrics, including psychological well-being, health, education, time use, cultural diversity, and ecological resilience, to assess and prioritize the happiness and well-being of its population. King Jigme Singye Wangchuck first introduced the idea in the 1970s.

Bhutan is where the idea of Gross National Happiness (GNH) originated. A comprehensive approach to development known as "gross national happiness" assesses the well-being and happiness of a nation's citizens rather than just emphasizing economic metrics like GDP. It places a strong emphasis on the value of environmentally sound development, cultural preservation, good governance, and environmental protection.

Bhutan, a country close to Nepal, is renowned for its dedication to valuing happiness above worldly success. Early in the 1970s, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the fourth monarch of Bhutan, proposed the idea of GNH. Since then, Bhutan has used a variety of metrics, including psychological well-being, health, education, time use, cultural diversity, and ecological resilience, to gauge and prioritize the happiness and well-being of its population.

I was unable to uncover any specific information regarding a similar program launched by a king in Nepal, despite the fact that Bhutan has adopted GNH as a guiding principle and gained recognition for its emphasis on happiness on a global scale.
