The unpleasant choices staring us in the face after 76 years!

Linguistic terms that dominate the political discourse in Pakistan:

A kakistocracy is a system of government where the worst, least capable, or most dishonest citizens are in charge. Throughout Pakistan's past, there have been numerous instances of kakistocracy, in which incompetent and unscrupulous dictators reigned with impunity.

Ochlocracy is a kind of government in which the masses or a mob are in charge. In Pakistan, demonstrations and protests frequently devolve into disorderly displays of ochlocracy, with violence and vandalism emerging as the norm.

A theocracy is a kind of government in which religious authorities are in charge and enforce religious values. As a theocracy with a strong religious impact on governmental decisions, Pakistan is frequently accused of being.

Plutocracy: a form of government where the powerful and influential are drawn from the rich elite. Pakistan is frequently referred to as a plutocracy, with a small number of wealthy people controlling political power, but having a high level of poverty.

Winston Churchill prophesied that India would experience political strife and be led by dishonest and inexperienced politicians. Discussions regarding Pakistani politics frequently reflect this mentality, with worries about kakistocracy and other types of bad governance predominating the conversation.

Churchill on India

" Power will go to the hands of rascals, rogues, freebooters; all Indian leaders will be of low calibre & men of straw. They will have sweet tongues and silly hearts. They will fight amongst themselves for power and India will be lost in political squabbles. A day would come when even air and water would be taxed in India.”

The statement above is attributed to Winston Churchill, but I cannot find it, as a speech or in a book: Where can I find it? Although it is widely and increasingly quoted in the Indian press and, given what is happening, he seems to have been prophetic! — K.P., India
